Where is anderton boat lift

There is an excellent cafeteria and gift shop at the exhibition area, a lift for those who cannot manage the stairs, and clean toilets! Outside, there are interesting walks, a picnic area and a play area with a maze constructed from the original weights. Boat-owners can actually take their boat on the lift, subject to certain restrictions. Those who dismiss the sightseeing boat trip as just a meander past disused industrial sites have missed the point, and the insightful commentary provided by the skipper en route.

On certain days in there is the chance to see the control room and machine deck at the very top of the structure! Do you have nerves of steel and a head for heights? If so, check availability with the booking line on If you have any questions, ask me. Rachael M. Thank you so much for your lovely and thorugh review. The team will be thrilled to hear your great feedback. We hope to see you again soon! Graham Wood Crewe, UK 1 contribution.

Dirty Cafe Lack of interest from the staff in the Cafe, it is just dirty. Milk and stuff running down the front of units. The fridges are just full of dust and mould. Really sad to see this place in such a mess. WilsonBi Burnley, UK 1 contribution.

All that is required here is a patch of grass from which to view the Boat Lift and a couple of small outdoor panels with a bit of history.

Instead you get a giant ugly building designed to empty your wallet. Wandering round the derelict factories nearby would be preferable as at least it's real history and hasn't been polished into nothingness. Hi I am sorry that you feel that the Visitor Centre is designed to empty your wallet.

The visitor centre and grounds are free and the exhibition on the lower ground floor is full of interesting information on the engineering, the reasons the lift was built and inforamtion about the local area. If you would like to call to discuss this further pelase do so. Please ask to speak to Carly or Duncan. Alternatively please email info andertonboatlift. Not if you have a dog. You can't even get a cup of coffee outside.

There is a nice country park adjacent to it with picnic tables. Hello, thank you for your review. I am sorry that you feel this way. As I have explained to customers with pets, we do not allow them and have done research yearly into this.

We certainly are not unique, and we inform our customers that we do not allow dogs into the visitor centre and grounds on our website and in our literature. It not an easy decision for us as majority of staff have pets- But we do have to look at what the majority of people would prefer.

We went with our two dogs today hopefully to have a good time, but NO couldn't take them to the cafe which has a out door area but have to go through the building to get there. Okay but if you want more people to visit then you need to make it more friendly for animal lovers. We saw as much as we could but after we were told that we were not allowed to go to the bottom area because we had dogs, then we went away.

Not everyone can leave there dogs with others!! We also had to pay a parking fee! Hello, I am sorry that your visit today was not what you expected. We have thousands of visitors per year, and yes a number of these customers have dogs.
