I asked a couple people here at Headquarters, no pun intended, and you should here the reasons they came up with! How did the origial numbers come to be and how is their association with the word?
It's also helpful that they left them that way. My brother is blind, and visually impaired people use the ridges and smooth edges to tell which coin is which. I had no idea that was the reason. So, why in the 40s when even the metal in pennies became valuable because of the war didn't they groove them during that time? Gary, thanks for this tidbit of information..
